Wandering Around the Neighborhood

After leaving the restaurant we set out to explore the neighborhood. All the books talked about the “night market”, and we weren’t sure what it was really.

Turns out, it's kind of hard NOT to find it if you're out after dark.

Imagine all the street vendors in New York City. Now put them on half a dozen streets, right next to each other. You’ve got an idea.

They open up shop about 9:00 at night – earlier on weekends, we’re told – and stay open until midnight or so. 2:00 a.m. if things are busy.

The stuff they offer is unimaginable. Reading glasses we paid $19.00 for at Walgreens last week are $1.99. T-shirts, jewelry (gen-u-wine, of course!  Just like in NYC!), coach handbags, DVD’s – it’s all there, and unlike the mall, there are sales staff who are more than happy to put down their drinks and talk with you about the possibility of making a purchase.

By 9:30, our time zone was catching up to us so we were back at the hotel getting ready for bed. It’s a nice place, set off the street on a little alley behind some other buildings, so you don’t hear any road or crowd noise.

Not that it would have made a whole lot of difference to us by that point.  We were in bed at around 10:30 pm (that would be 10:30 am EST).  Coincidently...we woke up at 3am Bangkok time....that would be 3pm EST.  It's gonna be a long day.
